Apple has just recently launched its first major and biggest update to iOS 10 with the release of iOS 10.1.

The Cupertine-based company launched its latest software update which includes a vital twist to the iPhone 7 Plus's camera.

The new iPhone 7 Plus Portrait Mode uses the devices' dual camera technology to take images with added effects.

The new mode complements a 'depth-of-field' effect typically seen on cameras. The 'bokeh' effect blurs the background of the image to make a stand-out photo of the subject.

"Using both 12-megapixel cameras on iPhone 7 Plus and advanced machine learning, Portrait mode applies a depth-of-field effect to make your foreground subject sharp while creating a beautifully blurred background," as described by Apple in a statement.

Accordingly, the update "turns the camera you carry around with you every day into an even more powerful photography tool," said Apple.

The 'bokeh' effect is said to be easily achieved using DSLR cameras with manual aperture control; however, it is harder to replicate on a camera with just a smartphone.

Thus, Apple held their heads up high as it is the first time that they have made the "bokeh" feature become handy on smartphone cameras plus with excellent result.

The specification of the camera was described. It is a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera on both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus which sports an optical image stabilization, a larger ƒ/1.8 aperture and new 6-element lens, as reported by Tech Times.

With this specs, the camera is intended for taking brighter and more detailed pictures.

However, Portrait Mode is limited to the iPhone 7 Plus and is not available on the iPhone 7.

Apple advised that the latest feature is still in testing mode; hence, users can expect further improvements in the future iOS updates.

According to reports by Tech Times, the latest iOS 10.1 will run on following supported devices: iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad 4th generation, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7 inch, iPad Pro 12.9 inch and iPod touch 6th generation.

Furthermore, Apple's iOS 10.1 Release Notes confirm that the update does not only include the new Portrait Camera for iPhone 7 Plus, but also with some fixes in the Camera and Photos applications.
