Caroline and Stefan finally got back together in the season seven finale of The Vampire Diaries. The question now is whether the fan-favorite couple will make it through season eight.

"They've got a really beautifully bumpy journey so far, but I think fans of that ship, as the kids say, will really enjoy it," Caroline King tells E! News on the show's Atlanta set.

On the other hand, Paul Wesley warns that there is trouble ahead for Steroline. "Definitely not intact the entire time, but perhaps towards the end-although that I can't even surmise, because I don't have any inclination as to what the finale will be," he tells us. "I know there were some discussions about it and we have talked about it a little bit, but I ultimately genuinely don't know what will happen."

There's also a lot in their plate. "Stefan's trying to save Damon from the big bad that we don't really know about yet and Caroline is busy juggling relationship and motherhood and co-parenting and work and all those things, so we're seeing these characters in a little bit more of a grown-up light, which is nice," King adds.

Also, it's an awkward fact that Caroline broke up with Alaric (Matt Davis) but still needs to raise their adorable witch babies with him.

As for Davis, he is happy that the love triangle still exists. "I love the Alaric-Caroline dynamic and I love working with Candice personally. So we've been having a lot of fun," he says, adding that there are no hard feelings between Alaric and Stefan. "Stefan and Alaric have, I think, a mutual respect for each other-I think very similar to the way Paul and I have a mutual respect for each other."

Hollywood Life adds that The Vampire Diaries season eight consists of 16 episodes and debuts Friday, Oct. 21 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
