Tobey Maguire and his wife, jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, have officially called it quits after nine years of marriage.

"After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple," they tell Us. "As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship."

US Magazine tells that a source adds the decision 'was not sudden' and there was 'no drama'.

"They are committed to remaining friends for their children and wanted to wait to make sure of that," the source tells Us. "They went back and forth on this decision but realized this is where the relationship is and they simply grew apart."

The known Spider-Man actor, 41, and Meyer, 39, first met in 2003 and got married in Hawaii in September 2007. The two exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in front of family and friends, including Maguire's BFF, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Also, when both were preparing to tie the knot, Daily Mail shares how Jennifer was thrilled, dubbing it the 'best time of her life'.

She shared: "Let's just say this is truly the best time of my life. I'm walking on air. I'm getting married, starting a family and have an amazing company."

The pair are parents of daughter Ruby, 9, and son Otis, 7.

Maguire opened up about fatherhood during his appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman. "It's a very dramatic change," he said at the time. "It's great. [Ruby is] so adorable. She's just a smiley, little beautiful thing."

He also further discussed how he balances his home life with his career. "I moved around so much and I've continued that in my career. I'm an actor - we go away for a few months and set up our world. And I want my kids to stay in school and make their friends and do all that," he told The Guardian.

"But I also appreciate traveling and having different experiences. And though I don't mind the idea of making some sacrifices, I also want to go pursue my career at the same time. I try not to make decisions based on conditioning."
