"Mad Men," "Girls," and "Downtown Abbey" are three of the TV shows nominated in the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards. On Thursday Jimmy Kimmel, who will host the Emmys on September 23, and Kerry Washington announced the nominees for The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
AMC's popular hit drama "Mad Men," set in 60s era New York, has been nominated for 17 Emmys. The show has won the drama series categories for the past four years. It's competitors include. "Boardwalk Empire," "Breaking Bad," "Downtown Abbey," "Game of Thrones" and "Homeland".
Downtown Abbey has been nominated for 16 Emmys and HBO's new hit show "Girls," scored both an Outstanding Comedy Series nomination and two for Lena Dunham as Best Actress and Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series.
"Modern Family" and "Saturday Night Live" racked up 14 nominations each including, Ed O'Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet all competing for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy and Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy. HBO's other newcomer, "VEEP" also got nods with Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Outstanding Actress in a Comedy and Outstanding Comedy Series.
