“Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2016 list offers up our recommendations for travelers seeking an authentic experience in Europe this summer – for those looking for local recommendations, or for those hoping to absorb some traditional life while they’re away," said Lonely Planet’s editorial director, Tom Hall according to Irish Examiner.

“Whether they are firm holiday favourites that have something new to offer, or places you may never have come across, these destinations should be on any traveller’s wish list this summer,” he added.

Number one on the list is Peloponnese which will allow you to have a journey to the rugged mountains, azure waters, spellbinding scenery and myth. This place is featured in Homer's The Iliad where Paris of Troy eloped with Helen. In The Odyssey, this is also the place where Odysseus’s son Telemachus searched for his father. Aside from that, this is also the area Hercules fought with the Nemean lion, Mail Online noted.

Meanwhile, Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark with a mix of history and modern features. Venice is a picturesque place where millions of people flock to their canals. The Dordogne has an array of castles and churches and is rich in food and history. Lviv highlights quaint cobbled streets and coffeehouses.

On the sixth spot is Warwickshire that lies on the River Avon with the grand Warwick Castle as one of its main attraction. Extremadura is in the heart of Spain rich in medieval treasure. East Coast Tenerife is proud of its low-key beach towns and scenic mountain views. Texel is a haven for beach lovers and has breathtaking landscapes.

And the last on the list is Northern Dalmatia which preserved medieval towns and has parks where visitors can sight bears and wolves.
