Prison Riot New Mexico - In the movies, the usual prison riots would occur where the lead star would usually escape with minor bruises fending off violent prisoners. Yet, in real life, Hollywood films have done no justice to the horror of the world's deadliest prison riot in the year 1980.

Feb. 2, 1980 was the day of the prison riot New Mexico. That date has long been engrave on the hearts and minds of New Mexicans. Those who were alive during such time have lived long enough to forget such a tragic and brutal night so easily.

Inmates at the New Mexico State Penitentiary had taken hostage of the guards. More than 30 inmates had died during the prison riot New Mexico, some of which had died a brutal death. While some were beaten to death, others were sexually assaulted. The prison riot New Mexico victims were beheaded, amputated or burned alive.

The prison riot New Mexico had said to have lasted more than 36 hours. Due to the riot and brutal deaths, the state's prison system had undergone an extensive reform. Out of the 33 officers who were brutally assaulted that day, only six have said to be alive today.

After more than 35 years ago, it seems the correctional officers who have lived through the prison riot New Mexico are soon to receive compensation from the traumatic day. New Mexico lawmakers are reportedly working on a bill which would compensate officers who were at the New Mexico State Penitentiary the day of the riot.

"I see this bill as an opportunity where we can put the cork back into that bottle, close that gate and put a final end to this terrible chapter in New Mexico history," shares Lawrence Lucero, one of only two officers who had managed to escape the prison riot New Mexico. This said compensation would call for $1.5 million.
