Electric cars 2015 are the next things on Mahindra and Mahindra's bucket list. Rumor has it that the automobile major is keen to focus on the market of electric vehicles despite its relatively "disappointing" performance.

Additionally, multiple online reports have indicated that the company has plans to modify an already existing diesel variant to be powered by an electric motor. Mahindra and Mahindra's premier electric car, the E20, hit the market a year and half back. Now, though, it would appear that they want to diversify its presence in the segment.

Mahindra and Mahindra's plans for electric cars 2015 are to launch the electric sports car, Halo, as well as revamp the diesel-run Verito with an engine that is powered by electricity.

Pawan Goenka told the press, "I must admit that the performance of electric vehicles (EVs) in India has been poor - almost disappointing and the reason for this is several-fold, not the least of which is there no government subsidy."

According to Goenka, Mahindra and Mahindra, which is the largest SUV car marker in India, has sold only 250 electric vehicles in the last eight months. He said, with regards to his company's sales projects as it entered the EV category, "We were hoping to cross 100 (sales of EVs) a month."

He blamed quite a few reasons for the poor pick-up of their EV segment. Apart from the fact that there were no government subsidies allotted for the promotion of green technology, Goenka also believes that charging stations and related infrastructure needs must be developed.

Also, he added that consumer perception with regards to today's electric cars 2015 must also be changed. Plus, there is the factor that a lot needs to be done when it comes to product development.

Goenka said, "We have set up 50 to 60 charging stations in Delhi and Bangalore where the sales are happening and the Karnataka government has encouraged us by setting up charging facilities."
