Renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach is now pushing for Manny Pacquiao to fight Jr. Welterweight kingpin Danny Garcia right after their showdown with another 140-pound champ Christopher Algieri.

In an interview with Boxing Scene.com, Roach revealed his first choice as Pacquiao's next opponent, and it's difinitely not the undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"My first choice for Manny's next fight is Danny Garcia," Roach told Boxingscene.com. "I know it's out there. I would love to fight Garcia, it's a great fight for Manny at 140 or 147."

Garcia currently holds WBC, WBA and the Ring jr. welterweight champion and has been one of the most dominant boxeras in this generation. He has been aching for a megabuck showdown with Mayweather for awhile now, but it appears a clash against another top-draw fighter in Pacquiao is in the offing.

Pacquiao, who will be fighting Algieri at a 144-pound catchweight, will be using his upcoming bout as a gauge to see if he's comfortable fighting at the 140-pound division. The Filipino congressman hasn't knocked out an opponent since dropping Miguel Cotto in their welterweight showdown in 2009, leading many experts to believe that Pacman doesn't longer have the power to drop bigger foes on the canvass.

"The thing is right now Manny is fighting at 144 for this fight. If he feels good at 144, we'll go to 140. If he doesn't then we'll go to 147. But Manny is a more natural 140 pounder. His walk around weight is 142," Roach added

When asked about a fight against Mayweather, Roach stressed that fight is no longer relevant because the American's skills are now in a decline, as compared to his wards Pacquiao and Cotto, who are still at the peak of their careers.

"I think it's a better fight [Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez than Mayweather vs. Pacquiao]," Roach said via Boxing News 24. "I think Floyd's a little shot right now. I see that's why he won't fight Pacquiao. That's my opinion."
