Tony Stewart news - Fresh from his three-week seclusion, after he got involved in a crash that killed fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr., NASCAR champ Tony Stewart will compete Sunday night at the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

According to several Tony Stewart news, the three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title holder will be back behind the wheel of his No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet SS this coming weekend.

The latest Tony Stewart news noted that this will be the driver's first race of any category since he struck and killed Ward Jr. at a sprint car race in Upstate New York on Aug. 9.

During the Canandaigua race, Ward was battling with Stewart when he slammed a wall then got out of his car and attempted to confront Stewart. In a video footage, Ward was seen walking towards Stewart when he was suddenly hit by the right-rear tire of Stewart's car and was immediately tossed into the air. His death was ruled by the Ontario County (N.Y.) as secondary to blunt-force trauma, ESPN has learned.

Police investigation has been going on for the past weeks and an Ontario County Sheriff's Office representative told FOX Sports that no Ward investigation updates will be released Thursday.

Since the fatal accident, Stewart had pulled out from the Aug. 10 Watkins Glen Sprint Cup race, the Michigan International Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway.

After the Tony Stewart news about the accident, the racing champ has not since spoken publicly. However, on Friday, he and SHR executive vice president Brett Frood, are set to meet with the media at 1 p.m. at the Atlanta track.

Following the Tony Stewart news of the racer's return, NASCAR executive vice president Steve O'Donnell is said to have issued a statement saying, "Tony Stewart has received all necessary clearances required to return to all racing activities, and therefore is eligible to compete this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR has remained in constant contact with his race team, and we will stay very close to this situation as Stewart returns to competition."

Meanwhile, NASCAR president Mike Helton is reportedly scheduled for a media session to discuss the Tony Stewart news situation on Friday 2p.m.
