Soccer player killed during game is Albert Ebosse, a Cameroonian striker playing for JS Kabylie in the Algerian top flight. According to multiple reports, the soccer player killed during game occurred after he was struck on the head by a projectile by one of his team's supporters, during a match against USM Alger on Saturday.

According to Sports Grid, because of the soccer player killed during game, the Confederation of African Football opened an investigation into the incident, and they are sending a warning against fans who might try to do the same.

A 24-year-old striker, Ebosse was struck on the head after the match where he scored the lone goal for JS Kabylie. The match proved to be a 2-1 defeat during their home defeat by USM Alger in Tizi Ouzou on Saturday, reports KYTX.

Because of the soccer player killed during game by a rock thrown at him, Algeria has decided on the suspension of football in the country. According to KYTX, the Algerian Football Federation made the decision after a Sunday meeting.

Meanwhile, Kabylie released a statement about the incident of the soccer player killed during game:

"The Ministry of Interior and Local Government, speaking through minister Tayeb Belaiz, has given an instruction to open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Albert Ebosse."

"The JSK player succumbed to a head injury after being hit in the head at the end of the meeting with USM Alger."

USM Alger also released its own statement, saying:

"JS Kabylie's Cameroonian striker has lost his life after being hit in the head by something launched from the stands."

"This terrible news is saddening for football in our nation and in Cameroon and arrives like a bombshell just hours after the meeting with USM Alger which was played in Tizi Ouzou."

"In these painful circumstances, USM Alger and its members send their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and to JS Kabylie. May Albert Ebosse rest in peace."

The CAF called for "tough sanctions" along with opening an investigation into the incident of the soccer player killed during game.

CAF president Issa Hayatou said in a statement on Sunday:

"My thoughts go out to the family and friends of this young man who enjoyed his job peacefully and went further to pursue his passion for football abroad."

"African football cannot be the breeding ground for hooliganism whatsoever. We expect exemplary sanctions to be taken against this grave act of violence."

"Violence has no place in African football in particular and sports in general. We remain resolute and state in the strongest terms our determination to eradicate all forms of violence and unsportsmanlike conduct in stadiums on the continent."

Apparently, throwing of projectiles at football matches is not unique to African football.

Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo was struck by a lighter in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal against Atletico Madrid, and he isn't the first one to be targeted from the stands. Reports say that Barcelona fans' flinging of a pig's head at Luis Figo after his move to the Santiago Bernabeu has become famous too.

When the United States national team went down south, U.S. player Landon Donovan has been targeted by Mexican fans, with them even throwing "containers holding urine and vomit."

Despite apparent violence with football players, this recent incident of a soccer player killed during game is rare. According to CNN, the tragedy is one of the darkest moments for Algerian football in many years.

There have reportedly been nearly 200 players who have died while playing professional or amateur soccer around the world since the 19th century. However, never there was a player killed by a fan during a match.

North African clubs, according to CNN, are generally well funded, well organized and well supported as compared to the rest of Africa's teams. However, the recent tragedy of the soccer player killed during game has put fan violence in Algeria on spotlight. It seems that the problem is not being handled properly especially with this recent death.

According to Transfermarkt, Ebosse scored 19 goals in 32 league appearances. He was also the Algerian league's top scorer last season with 17 goals.

Soccer player killed during game story of Ebosse is just one story of the maltreatments he has encountered in his professional life. Last season, he reportedly received monkey chants from one set of opposition supporters, to which he responded by scoring and dancing in front of them.

He told the Algerian media after the match, "I think if I'm injured, black or white will not come out of my body. Red will."
