Blue lobster was found in Maine. A young lobsterwoman was surprised to find a blue lobster stuck in a trap she set in the water just this weekend. It was a highly uncommon blue crustacean that experts believe is a one-in-two-million sea creature.

The 14-year-old Meghan LaPlante had a summer job with her parents at Miss Meghan's Lobster Catch, which is located in Old Orchard Beach. She said that she was very excited and highly surprised when she found a very unusual lobster in the trap she created.

LaPlante also found other unique catches, such as a six-pounder which she had to throw back into the water because of its massive size. However, she never expected to find a lobster that was as blue as the ocean that it came from.

LaPlante said, "I knew that it was definitely rare, but I actually have never seen any other unordinary lobster." This is a huge thing to say, given that she and her father have been doing a lot of lobster-ing since this year started.

Her blue lobster catch that she got on Saturday afternoon drew a lot of attention, even on an international standpoint. A blue-colored lobster is just so out of the ordinary, especially since American lobsters have not been found to be any other color than the dark blue or greenish brown colors that they usually have. No one has seen a blue lobster, as blue as the one that LaPlante caught, in any restaurant tank.

As stated by the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine in Orono, blue lobsters are very hard to find. In fact, they are considered extremely rare. The unique blue color is actually due to a genetic defect that is believed to be caused by an excessive production of a certain protein.
