10 safest airlines in the world? According to CNN, a list of the world's safest airlines has just been released by AirlineRatings.com. The list comprises the safest carriers in 2013. For 2014 however, below is a list of the 10 safest airlines in the world according to Hamburg-based Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC).

There are similarities with 2013 with the 2014 list of the 10 safest airlines in the world by JACDEC, but some airlines have been taken out.

At the top of the list for 2013's 10 safest airlines in the world is Australian airline Qantas, receiving a seven-star rating from AirlineRatings.com. Other seven-star airliners (not arranged by rank) include Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Eva Air, Royal Jordanian, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

For the 2014, things are a little bit different. Not only with the list, but with people's perception. It is a fact that 2014 has not been the best year for flying. Though statistically, it is common knowledge that flying is safer than driving. However, when a Malaysia Airlines flight goes missing, another one gets shot down, and planes in Taiwan and Mali suddenly crash all in the same year, it is acceptable for one to think that maybe staying at home is just the safest bet.

However, there's nothing to fear, because there still are plenty of airliners to trust this year. The ranking, courtesy of JACDEC, identifies the 10 safest airlines in the world, ones which have distinguished themselves amongst by keeping people's lives safe in the skies.

Surprisingly, Qantas is at the bottom of the list.

From Top 1 in 2013 to Top 10 this year, it's a surprising jump. Still, the 2013 list came from AirlineRatings.com and this year it's from JACDEC.

Nevertheless, Australia's national carrier is amongst the Top 10 for two consecutive years, and that's saying something. According to Yahoo!, it is a little known fact Qantas is the acronym for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, at least outside its homeland.

Quantas has reportedly had no fatalities since 1951, the beginning of airlines era.

10 Safest Airlines In The World - Top 9: Air Canada

And that concludes the Top 10 safest airlines in the world, so there's no reason for needless worry from now on.

CNN says that commercial aviation is one of the most heavily monitored industries in the world. Statistically compared to car accidents, the comparison definitely bears out. According to the Aviation Safety Network (ASN), 2013 has seen the least number of fatalities in aviation history since 1945 - with 29 accidents and 269 deaths. That is a lot as compared to a 10-year average of 32 accidents and 719 deaths.

As for what happened with Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, Editor Geoffrey Thomas of AirlineRatings said in an interview with ABC News that the disappearance appears to have resulted from a structural failure or a bomb.

While the United States does not blacklist individual airlines, it does make a public list of countries which do not meet the international aviation safety standards, reports CNN.

10 safest airlines in the world list may not have meant much before the string of airline disasters this year, but as it is, the list matters, and it is better to worry about comfort than safety in the skies.
