Washingtonians have the privilege of living in one of the most diverse states in the United States. Washington is a state that touches the ocean on one end, and a desert like terrain on the other; and not to forget the beautiful land in the middle. As a person born on the West side of Washington, I definitely prefer that side. But, I also attend school on the East side, so I do see the beauties of Eastern Washington as well.

My favorite places in Washington would have to be Ocean Shores, Alki beach in Seattle, Leavenworth, and River Front Park in Spokane.

Long Beach is often looked past by people just wanting to go to the ever too touristy Ocean Shores. Yes, Ocean Shores does have pretty views and a fun pier, but so does Long Beach, without the thousands of tourists. Long Beach offers a wonderful Kite Festival every summer, and it is so beautiful to come and see all the great kites. When making a trip to the ocean coast in Washington I highly recommend driving to Long Beach rather than Ocean Shores.

Alki Beach in Seattle is a hot spot if you're a local. However, many tourists opt out to just spend their time on the water front, Pikes Place Market, Space Needle, etc. Alki Beach looks across the bay to the city skyline offering breathtaking views. Biking and roller blading is a common activity to do going across the boardwalk. Also, on Alki Beach there are extremely good restaurants featuring locally grown food and homemade craft beers.

Leavenworth is the way to go if you love international travel, but hate the price of international travel. This German European style town is the perfect little get away for a family, friends, or a romantic spot for couples. Explore all the little shops in town and amazing restaurants, or go to see the wonderful parades at Oktoberfest. Or my personal favorite, taking a horse carriage ride behind a big beautiful Clydesdale horse.

Last but not least, River Front Park in Spokane is so striking. The park offers different art statues, as well as bridges looking over the Spokane River. I love just people watching on a bench, and taking rides on the old carousel in the middle of the park. The River Front Park in Spokane is a definite place to see during your residency in Washington State, or if you're just looking for a unique vacation.
