The incident seemed like a big joke to witnesses at first, but upon closer inspection, they soon realized that the body that fell from the coroner's ambulance was all too real. According to the Bucks County Courier Times, the moment the body falls from coroner's van happened near a busy shopping mall around noon. A coroner's office employee noticed too late that the rear door of the van apparently malfunctioned and opened, and thus transporting the body outside into the street.

Chris Edwards, the county spokesman, said emergency services were immediately alerted Friday afternoon to the incident which occurred around midday.

As the body falls from coroner's van, unassuming cars drove by without knowing what was truly going on.

According to KTVI, as the body falls from coroner's van, one witness thought that what he saw was a joke at first. He even looked around for cameras, and when he realized no one else was stopping, he jumped out of his car to help get the body back in the truck.

Another member of the public also thought that as the body falls from coroner's van, what he was watching was a prank. But it was not until workers went out of the van to drag the body out of the road that that person thought the body was real.

A witness by the name of Jerry Bradley told to LevittownNow.com, 'At first I thought someone was pulling a prank, but traffic was just driving around. I helped a woman from the coroner's office get it out of the road, as it appeared to be broken a little.' Bradley said he was waiting in traffic coming from a nearby shopping centre when the stretcher came flying out from the back of the vehicle.

As the body falls from coroner's van and caused unnecessary worry, officials from Bucks County, Pennsylvania have released a statement of apology, Mirror reports.

The statement said:

'At approximately 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, the Bucks County Coroner's office realised that a rear door mechanical malfunction had taken place during the transport of a deceased individual on Street Road. The driver immediately knew that this malfunction occurred. The driver of the transport vehicle returned to make the transport complete, with the help of a bystander and in a matter of moments. Care was taken to respect the deceased individual in this instance. The Bucks County Coroner's Office deeply regrets this incident and will take steps to ensure that it is not repeated in the future.'

It turns out that as the body falls from coroner's van, another witness close to the incident was able to take a snapshot of it the body, which was wrapped in a sheet.

The photo was posted on Facebook by a Jerry Bradley and captioned, 'Just when I thought I've seen everything. That's a dead body on a stretcher that launched out of the back of a coroner's vehicle in Feasterville.'

 

Body falls from coroner's van photo, after being shared on Facebook Friday, has since gone viral and has now been shared over 2,300 times on the social networking site. The coroner's office told The Associated Press that it "deeply regrets" the incident.
