At 34, Harry now sports a new scar on his cheek aside from the classic lightning bolt that adorns his forehead, or so writes author JK Rowling in a new piece published on Pottermore, the interactive Harry Potter website.

The piece is written from the viewpoint of an older Rita Skeeter, the enmity-focused tabloid reporter for the Daily Prophet who always postulates speculation as fact and stretches the truth until it is no longer apparent. The character was prominent in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where she continually spied on and embellished upon any story regarding Harry.

Rowling, as Skeeter, explores briefly the lives of the main characters with the acerbic tinge of the reporter, as we learn that Ron Weasley, Harry's best friend and confidant, stopped working as an auror (a wizard intelligence agent) to help his brother George run the joke shop, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. The shop was formerly run by solely George and Fred Weasley, though Fred died in the battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Hermione Granger, the 'most clever witch of her age,' is a rising force in the Ministry of Magic, as many would expect.

Skeeter reports from the Quidditch World Cup in Argentina, where the trio arrived to much pageantry and gala.

Rowling's voice as Skeeter likely conveys the author's continuing ire with the tabloid press, as, since her meteoric rise with the success of Harry Potter, she found herself hounded by them ceaselessly. She gave testimony in the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics in 2011, sharing her story as to how one reporter tried to contact her by placing a note in her five-year old's school backpack.

The piece itself is a welcome addendum to the story for fans of the series who now can look forward to the cinematization of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a Hogwarts textbook written into reality by JK Rowling. The film is currently in pre-production, with the screenplay being written by Rowling herself. None of the stars from the 8 Harry Potter films have confirmed that they will appear, though it is unlikely given that the story would take place around a century before the events in the Harry Potter series.
