According to CBS Local, the woman who found the Grass Valley bear at first thought it was her husband looking for lunch on that fateful Monday afternoon. However, when she entered her kitchen, she found the kitchen, she found a Grass Valley bear not just inside her kitchen, but also looking inside her fridge for food. The Grass Valley bear apparently managed to open her fridge and search for meat inside.

According to reports, the woman who found the Grass Valley bear has been identified as Kathleen Hickinbotham. Her account of the incident tells of how, on Monday afternoon, she went downstairs to check on what the noise is inside her kitchen. She found her kitchen already ransacked by a Grass Valley bear. She looks onward and finds further that on her porch is the Grass Valley bear feasting on a meat from her freezer.

Hickinbotham told CBS-13 in Sacramento, "He had pulled out all the top drawers, and the bottom drawer of the refrigerator was open."

She told in the interview how she started to bang on a pot in order to scare the Grass Valley bear away. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt from the Grass Valley bear incident that morning. But as it turns out, the Grass Valley bear would later return to Hickinbotham's home in the night in order to look for more food. This time, Ms Hickinbotham is prepared and has already armed herself once again with a pot and an additional wooden spoon. At that moment, she has also decided to arm herself like what the rest of her neighbours are doing and get a dog.

CBS Local reports that, Grass Valley bear sightings are not unusual in the area. Further up Hickinbotham's street, another bear reportedly scaled a five-foot fence just to eat a neighbor's chickens.

Grass Valley bear sightings may be common. However, residents in the area said that bears have never entered a person's home, apart from Hickinbotham's.
